Chairman's ReportI would like to start by paying tribute to ALL Section Members who have loyally supported us throughout the year. But I would also like to single out some for a special mention. Not least of these is our reformed Committee who have strived to maintain our reputation for Quality Club Nights. There was never any doubt that following in Hoppy's ‘Footsteps' was going to be tough. Not least, because of the danger of falling in the holes left by them! Seriously, it was always going to be a hard act to follow, but follow they have, and in fine style. We have followed a well tried and tested formula with some fine tuning along the way. It has not been without the odd trauma or two when rapid substitution of Speakers has been necessary due to unavoidable and unforeseen circumstances. Nor has it been without a few minor hitches but nothing that has caused us sleepless nights! Our Secretary will shortly present his own report covering the last 12 months so I will close by adding just a few personal notes of thanks: - As always, I would like to offer my thanks for the generosity of Members who have contributed in more ways than one! I would like to thank the Committee for their support. Those that have prepared and given talks, and last but by no means least, the Ladies (and their helpers!) without who's help, many would have gone hungry! Once again we thank you for supporting the Section throughout the past year. Chris Illman |

Secretary's ReportThis past year has seen the Section repeat many of our favourite events. In March we held the Intersection Quiz which was followed in April by the Fish and Chip Supper. In June it was Bring your Bike to Shefford, with the Cranfield BBQ being held two weeks later. July saw us hold our politically correct Car Park Concours a full car park with no winners or losers! August was a Noggin and Natter evening, there being little appetite for another table top sale. Tonight we have everyone's favourite the AGM. During the year we had a number of talks starting with the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service (January) and Airships and Motorcycles by Hoppy in February. May was a talk Harnessing the Resonances, a chat about the machines Brian Cornwell had owned and raced. September we were to have a talk by Will Curry but a throat problem made this impossible. Bob Billington and his young crew stepped into the breach giving a most interesting talk on their experiences in the Green Car Challenge. In October Jim Woodham came along to give a talk on Aerial Motorcycles - an interesting insight into micro lighting. There were five runs during the year starting with the Founders Relay Rally, then David Watts Spring Run both in May. Roger King organised The Arthur King Run for the first week of June this being followed by the Albert Brown Run held the first week in July to avoid The Festival of 1000 Bikes. Next month we will have our Christmas do and this year Chris and Martin are going to trial an Auction which if successful will become a regular Xmas feature. Throw in a couple of "Anti Social Runs" and George Wrench's Boxing Day Run and I hope you will agree we have had a full and varied 2008 programme. Your Committee has created a programme for 2009 that is a mix of old favourites and new talks, fresh ideas and offers of talks are always welcomed. Your committee discussed the future of the Intersection Quiz now that Hoppy has stepped down. We want to see it continue and Will, Chris and Martin have agreed to organise the event. We will need a new catering team for this event so over to the members for offers of support. One final question, George - Boxing Day Run on the 26th December? Some copies of the 2009 programme are available and Will Curry will put this onto our website www.vmccbeds.co.uk in the next day or so. It only remains for me to thank all our speaker and committee members for their contributions during the year. |
