Chairman's ReportWelcome I propose to keep this reasonably short this year. It just is not possible to say much new and I therefore would like just to say just a few words of thanks to those people who have made it possible for this Section to function for another year without too many dramas. Firstly, a word of thanks must go to Brian Marsh our Section Scribe, who has managed, very successfully in my view, to conjure up the words to fill the Bedfordshire Section Notes each month. As someone who does it for another Section, I know just how difficult it is to fill this slot month after month. Thanks Brian. Also, through the good offices of our 'Web Master' Will Curry, and with the kind support of Pete Jones Company (DJ Automation) providing the Hosting Service, our Section Website is now up and running again. I know this subject does not sit comfortably with all members; but we have to keep up with the tech'y stuff. If for no other reason, we have to realise that the most serious threat to our Club is replacing the 'Natural Wastage' with new, Young(er!) Blood. So again, my thanks to Will & Pete. A special thanks to those that have helped with Talks and other organisational skills. It is appreciated! (Although we can always use more help to lighten the load on others!) Finally, our reputation as the finest Hosts this region has to offer (dare I say the country?) continues to spread thanks to the welcoming hospitality offered by the Section at various functions. Thanks in the main go to the Ladies who work so hard to provide the 'Tucker' that is the envy of other Sections. No names, but we all know who they are! Our Secretary will report 'Briefly' on the specific Club Nights but for what it's worth, I still believe we have the recipe about right? If you don't agree, well now's the time to have your say! That's it! I would just like to add my personal thanks to you all for supporting the section throughout the year. Chris Illman |

Secretary's ReportJust a reminder of the great evenings spent at Shefford in the past year. Thanks must go to all those who contributed to the programme and to the many people who have provided raffle prizes over the past year. 10th November 2005 Section AGM 8th December 2005 Christmas evening with Mick Hemmings who brought along the factory Triumph twin raced by Percy Tait. 12th Jan 2006 a talk on Tempsford Aerodrome by Local School teacher Bernard O'Connor. 9th February 2006 a talk on BSA Group History by Bob Colver. 9th March 2006 The Intersection Team Quiz which for the first time in its History was not won by the Anglian Section. 13th April 2006 The Fish and Chip Supper. 11th May 2006 a talk by Doug Healy the son in law of one of our section members Dave Crow. Doug told us about miniature air vehicles for surveillance operations. A welcome replacement for our Neracar speaker, Ken Philp who was forced by an incurable illness to cancel his evening with us. 8th June 2006 Ride a bike night. Super weather brought 68 paying members to the event. 13th July 2006 The Car Park Concours. 82 ½ members attended. A tie for the most popular machine, between a 250 Unit BSA and a vintage, Indian V Twin. Eddies M20 was voted the most original machine. 13th August 2006 We held the table top sale with 65 paying members present. 14th September 2006 We had a talk from Will Curry entitled Motorcycling Today covering a wide range of topics from Wills motorcycling life. 12th October 2006 A talk entitled, a reading from the Book of Adam. Scrapbook history of a veteran 1896 Arnold motor carriage. Summer evenings at alternative locations were the anti social run in May, making you own way to the Green Man at Eversholt, the BBQ at Cranfield Social Club in June and the July run to meet the Matchless Owners Club at George Wrench's home in Bromham. 25 members rode to Eversholt, 37 attended the Barbie but only a handful came to Bromham to sample the tea, coffee, cakes, free beers and shandy's available. Thanks go to the members involved in setting up these events. Shefford also played host to visiting VMCC members taking part in the Founders Relay Rally. 100 members either started at or passed through our checkpoint a very satisfying number. Many of them are drawn to us in the knowledge that there is always a good cup of tea and good food available at Bedfordshire Section events. I am sure everyone realises the enormous debt we owe to our Ladies. They work away in the Kitchen at the back of the hall and I think it is a fundamental truth that we would not be even half as successful as a section without the effort they have put into our events over the years. |
